Aspex has been developing the ASProCore technology since 1986, and is currently implementing the 7th and 8th generation architectures.
1986
Aspex Microsystems is started as a spinout from Brunel University in West London to develop massively parallel computers based on the Associative String Processing architecture.
1989
First generation ASProCore implemented in 2 micron silicon,
with 64 processing elements per chip.
1990-1999
Further development of the ASProCore architecture, resulting in a 5th generation ASProCore chip with 1,024 processing elements, fabricated in a 0.5 micron silicon process.
Aspex Microsystems develops several bespoke supercomputers around the ASProCore technology for customers in the military, scientific, and research communities.
2000
Realising the potential of a high density ASProCore implementation as a System-On-Chip technology, Aspex spins out from the Brunel Campus and re-incorporates as Aspex Technology.
Aspex Technology raises an initial Series A investment from angel investors and London-based venture capital firm New Media Spark, and commences development of the Linedancer Extreme Processor system-on-chip prototype.
2003
Proof-of-concept samples of Linedancer chip manufactured in 0.18u CMOS process, and are used to demonstrate viability and performance of the solution.
2004
6th generation Linedancer 1 chip enters production in Philips Semiconductor 0.13u process.
Aspex secures $10M ‘B’ round funding from existing investors, and changes its name from Aspex Technology to Aspex Semiconductor Ltd, reflecting its fabless business model.
First volume orders from customers.
2005
Aspex launches Accelera 3000 board-level acceleration product to address software acceleration market.
Complete reference designs for WiMAX base stations and High-Definition MPEG-2 video compression are also launched.
