Accelera Encoder System Requirements
High performance, realtime HD video compression makes significant demands on workstation configuration.

For information on pre-certified workstations, visit this page.

Processors

  • Intel: Dual Xeon, 3.4 GHz or above
  • AMD: Dual dual-core Opteron 280

For best system performance, systems should be configured with dual processors (hyperthreaded or dual core) for a total of four cores.

Memory

  • 2GB DDR DRAM

Note that the Accelera card requires 320 MB of available PCI address space.

Operating System

  • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (32-bit)
  • Mac OS X support Q1 2007
Slot type
  • Full length 100 or 133 MHz 64-bit PCI-X, single slot
  • 4/8/16-lane PCI Express slot
For best system performance and to maximize bus bandwidth, the Accelera card should ideally be located on a different bus segment to a RAID controller or video I/O card.

Power consumption
  •   25-30W typical (from 5V rail)

An optional auxiliary power connector is provided, although most systems are capable of providing all power required from the PCI-X connector.

RAID configuration

Processing uncompressed HD data clearly makes significant demands on hard disk bandwidth, and a RAID array or suitable video I/O card will be required to achieve maximum performance.
As a guideline, the RAID array should be chosen to comfortably support realtime playback of the uncompressed source material.

Video I/O Cards

Depending on the software application, the Accelera AVE can support realtime HD or SD encoding from a video I/O card.

Details of certified I/O cards are provided here
